Sam Smith has already penned a song about his recent relationship split.

The singer was dating Jonathan Zeizel after meeting on a video set.

However, they have since gone their separate ways and Smith told the London Evening Standard that it has given him fresh writing inspiration.

The Brit said: "The [last] record was therapy, closure, it saved me.

"I've written a song about another person recently. You know I split up with someone a few weeks ago?"

He added: "Nothing dramatic happened. I made a mistake by posting pictures of us on Instagram and making it seem more serious than it was. I flew him to Australia and we had a nice time.

"We just weren't very compatible, but I've learned that I need to hold off before I start getting the public involved."
