Bluesman Charlie is Angry About Brexit

“Brexit Blues” hits 25,000 views on Facebook

When your life consists of travelling through Europe singing and playing the blues then you are going to have pretty strong views on the subject of Brexit. Born into a travelling family in Scotland some 68 years ago, Bluesman Charlie has always had the wanderlust. Teaching himself the blues at 17, music has been Charlie’s spiritual passport since then.

Charlie’s social commentary within his music has become a big hit on social media. His song “Foodbank Blues” has clocked up nearly 20,000 views on his Facebook page with “Brexit Blues” having had an even more impressive 25,000 views.

“It’s (Brexit) a massive step backwards. I was a truck driver before entry and after entry. Before it was a nightmare trying to work across Europe, it was so much easier once we were in Europe. Now we want to go backwards, what were people thinking?”

Living in Spain for the past 10 years, travelling to France, Germany and The Netherlands to play gigs has become a way of life. To Charlie it is all about freedom, a freedom he doesn’t want to give up. “I needed to protest and the only way I know how is through my music.” Charlie knows how much freedom being part of Europe has given him in his life. His personal experience of what his working life was like before and after Europe needs to be heard. Brexit is going to deny the freedom he and many others have enjoyed to generations of young people.

Bluesman Charlie is angry and he is making a stand!
