Following her April show at the Royal Festival Hall, Joan As Police Woman returns to London on August 13th for a low-key show at London’s Omeara - announced to her fans via social media, this show has already SOLD OUT

To coincide with a run of headline shows and festival appearances across Europe this Summer, Joan As Police Woman will release a new single, ‘STEED (For Jean Genet)’ (listen via link below), from her rapturously received new album ‘DAMNED DEVOTION’

Joan Wasser (aka Joan As Police Woman) on ‘Steed’: I have a fetish for writers. I read a lot of Genet several years ago; it fit the place I was in then. This song came about when jamming with Parker Kindred, the drummer for Joan As Police Woman. He was on drums and I was on bass. I started playing that arty disco-style bass line and singing that first melody and Genet popped into my head, I don’t know why. I assume it’s because gay men tend to dominate the dance floor and this felt like a dance song. I assume it’s because Genet is such a strong symbol of freedom and fearlessness. These are themes on this record. Maybe most obviously, this song is about sex, filthy sex, pure filthy sex and no apologies.

In other news: Joan Wasser recently performed a stunning duet with the legendary BILL MURRAY in New York as part of a show commemorating Bob Dylan’s Town Hall show in 1963

Joan: Hal Willner put together a show commemorating Dylan's Town Hall '63 show with a diverse group of artists singing the tunes. I performed the title track "Tomorrow Is A Long Time", for which I also wrote the arrangement. The day before the show Hal said "I've got Bill Murray to do "Don't Think Twice, It's Alright" and I want you to play guitar and sing with him, just you two." Bill and I met before the show in a dressing room and worked it out. I felt like I'd known him for years, plus, I made HIM laugh! After the show he cheekily introduced me to his friends and family as "his guitar player".. The rest is YouTube history.

Already acknowledged as a thrilling live performer and starkly honest lyricist, new album Damned Devotion finds Joan Wasser at her rawest. Joan: “My maxim is: if it feels scary to say it, it’s the thing you must say”. And on Damned Devotion the thoughtful lyricism is married to Joan’s most accessible music to date.

“this is a beautiful soul searching record and the one that Joan Wasser has spent her whole life building up to” - Q ****

“Joan As Police Woman is as arresting as ever” - Mojo ****

“no-one today negotiates the sacred and profane quite like Joan Wasser” Uncut ****
“edgily lascivious”
- The Observer ****

“suffused with sensuous carnal urgency” - The Independent ****

“Joan makes the listener feel and engage with every part of her emotional ride. It’s time to take that journey with her once again” - DIY

“it’s as if she’s found a spiritual link between Memphis soul and US indie which nobody else discerned” - Prog

“her sixth solo set steers her back to what she’s best at: exquisite, tenderly fraught torch-soul songs of compulsion and regret, where the lights are dimmed, the feelings run deep and the hushed elasticity of her voice commands close attention” - Record Collector ****
