I read a lot of Genet several years ago; it fit the place I was in then. This song came about when jamming with Parker Kindred, the drummer for Joan As Police Woman. He was on drums and I was on bass. I started playing that arty disco-style bass line and singing that first melody and Genet popped into my head, I don’t know why. I assume it’s because gay men tend to dominate the dance floor and this felt like a dance song. I assume it’s because Genet is such a strong symbol of freedom and fearlessness. These are themes on this record. Maybe most obviously, this song is about sex, filthy sex, pure filthy sex and no apologies. In other news: Joan Wasser recently performed a stunning duet with the legendary BILL MURRAY in New York as part of a show commemorating Bob Dylan’s Town Hall show in 1963 Joan: Hal Willner put together a show commemorating Dylan's Town Hall '63 show with a diverse group of artists singing the tunes. I performed the title track "Tomorrow Is A Long Time", for which I also wrote the arrangement. The day before the show Hal said "I've got Bill Murray to do "Don't Think Twice, It's Alright" and I want you to play guitar and sing with him, just you two." Bill and I met before the show in a dressing room and worked it out. I felt like I'd known him for years, plus, I made HIM laugh! After the show he cheekily introduced me to his friends and family as "his guitar player".. The rest is YouTube history. ‘Joan Wasser and her superb four-piece are at peak groove’ UK / Irish Shows 2018 TICKETS August:
