R.E.M. have announced that they have finished recording their follow-up to 2008's 'Accelerate'.

The as-yet untitled new record has been produced by the legendary producer Jacknife Lee, who has also worked with bands such as Kasabian, Snow Patrol and Editors.

The band recorded the album at the Music Shed in New Orleans and Hansa Studios in Berlin, where David Bowie recorded his hit, 'Heroes'. R.E.M. also recorded additional material in Nashville. 

The LP is expected to be released in the spring of 2011 via Warner Bros. Records.
