An online campaign has been started calling for rock band Weezer to break up and stop making music.

Seattle resident, James Burns, the campaign organiser, claims it is offering $10million for the nerd-rockers to “disappear”. He says he is not a fan himself, but is “tired of my friends being disappointed year after year.”

The ‘pitch’ for the campaign argues: “Every year, Rivers Cuomo swears that he’s changed, and that their new album is the best thing that he’s done since ‘Pinkerton,’ and what happens? Another pile of crap like 'Beverly Hills' or 'I’m Your Daddy'.”

The petition, which is named 'We will offer Weezer $10 million to break up” (http://www.thepoint.com/campaigns/campaign-0-1079), is calling for all fans who bought 1996’s ‘Pinkerton’ (totalling upwards of 852,000), to donate $12. This, says Burns, will add up to enough money to fund the split-up of the band.

 Weezer themselves are set to reissue ‘Pinkerton’ this November.
