Seattle alt-pop pioneer, Aquarium Drinker, teased what is to come on his forthcoming debut LP with the superlatively synthy feat of reflective melancholy, By Design.

The rhythmically ruminative feat of electro-pop traverses themes of visceral disappointment. Never allowing the soundscape to veer into scorn, the solo artist opts to give an intimate and emotional view into the toll loggerheads can take when being on the same page is out of the realm of possibility.

Unfamiliar yet accessible in the same vein, Aquarium Drinker takes influence from the likes of Beach House, The Weeknd, Frank Ocean, Lorde, and Grimes before producing a brand-new brand of pop.

The single and official music video, mixed and mastered by Cindie Xin and Vanessa Thurlow, is now available to stream on all music platforms.

Aquarium Drinker said:

“Many of my songs, like this one, are about being disappointed in others. The sole theme of By Design is on the points of contention in a relationship with one of my exes. We had differing opinions about a political issue; I couldn’t bring him into my frame of mind because that is how he was raised to think… By Design.”

Amelia Vandergast, the Executive Editor at A&R Factory said:

“With the semi-lucid atmosphere of Beach House converging with the Alan Vega-ESQUE synth score, By Design is beyond anything we have ever heard before. Yet, through the resonant intimacy, few soundscapes we have heard this year are satisfyingly sweeter.”

About

It all began as a way to channel my creativity when I was bored in college. I was fortunate to find a free Ableton course after finding a crack for Ableton in 2017 (I have since acquired Ableton legally, please don't come after me).

All the production is by me, and I'm self-taught. My music has ended up in one cohesive product with this album I'm about to release. I'm really proud of the music I'm making.

I released a lo-fi EP in 2020, just before the pandemic. I've since shared some covers on my Instagram and some loosies here and there on SoundCloud, but my debut LP is a signal of a new artistic era for me.
