AFROPUNK ANNOUNCES LINEUP FOR AFROPUNK ATLANTA: CARNIVAL OF CONSCIOUSNESS FOR OCTOBER 13TH AND 14TH

AFROPUNK ANNOUNCES LINEUP FOR AFROPUNK ATLANTA: CARNIVAL OF CONSCIOUSNESS FOR OCTOBER 13TH AND 14TH  INCLUDES N.E.R.D, THE INTERNET, WICKED WISDOM, BENJAMIN BOOKER, NONAME, LITTLE SIMZ, SERPENTWITHFEET, GAIKA, YVES TUMOR AND KARI FAUX

AFROPUNK has announced its third edition of AFROPUNK Presents the Carnival of Consciousness, Atlanta for October 13th and 14th. Taking place once again at Atlanta's 787 Windsor complex, it is as much an arts and ideas festival as a blank space to be communally created. At this Carnival, like-minded people of all varieties come together to exchange innovative ideas, and form a new kind of immersive gathering. Performers for this year's Carnival will include N.E.R.D, The Internet, Wicked Wisdom, Benjamin Booker, Noname, Little Simz, Serpentwithfeet, Gaika, Yves Tumor and Kari Faux with further announcements coming soon.

The festival that began in Brooklyn in 2005 has since expanded around the world - to Paris and Johannesburg, to London and Atlanta.  Beyond the constellation of large-scale live-music events, AFROPUNK is a world-wide community that is the engine of the global black experience, creating space and value for the intersections, embracing the plurality of our stories and individualities across borders and continents. The AFROPUNK festivals are gathering places to experience art and fashion, food and local markets. AFROPUNK is where the global majority comes to see and be seen, to speak loudly and proudly, to resist and party - and, most of all, to make the future.

As has become custom of the now-global movement, AFROPUNK has created a theme for this year's festivals: The People Resist, a message that brings together AFROPUNK ideology and the people who support it, in resistance to those that strive to opress. (The entirety of The Peoples Resist statement can be read at the bottom of the press release.)

In an effort to make sure that everyone who wants to be a part of the AFROPUNK experience can be, the festival will be bringing back it's earned-ticket program, called AFROPUNK ARMY.  The earned-ticket, social-justice advocacy program gives fans the opportunity to join AFROPUNK's volunteer corps for admittance to the festival. The AFROPUNK Global Initiative, works closely with nonprofit partners to provide volunteer activities and community givebacks in exchange for a ticket to the festival (a minimum of 8 hours of volunteer work will earn ONE General Admission ticket). The AP ARMY program will launch for the 2018 festival season later this spring. To find out more information about the AFROPUNK ARMY volunteer program, fans can sign up at afropunkfest.com.

Also returning this year is The SpinThrift Market, which showcases the best of the AFROPUNK maker community. DIY craft vendors who sell an array of one-of-a-kind products. First selections for the SpinThrift Market include Afrikans United, Eloexa and QILO, with many more to be added by the fall.

THE PEOPLE RESISTThis resistance is not new!We, the people who have lived under the thumb of white supremacy, genderinequality, homophobia, environmental rape and economic apartheid have alwaysknown that when the world is an outrage, the sensible thing to do is defy it.
Resistance is survival, not just a hashtag. But if it's going to be a social media call topolitical arms, let's make that fucker count!

This resistance is not only about the toxicity of sick men in power.

We, the people recognize the laws they codify are pornographic fever-dreams oflate-stage capitalism and white patriarchy, its bottom-lines built on the brokenbacks of individual human rights, and on development for the few but cheap plasticlives for those segregated from society.

Our moral teachers taught us the ethics on which to build this fight, and our punkroots gave us the strategy.
This resistance is not nihilism.

When the People Resist, our collective "No" is actually "Yes" - to all, for all. Westake everybody's claim, rejecting old colonial privileges.

When the People Resist, it is inclusive, not exclusive -our arms open to theoppressed, and a finger in the air to the oppressors. We respond to the absurdity oftheir limited vision.

When the People Resist, it is unity, not division - loud voices speaking together, even if they aren't all saying the same thing. We reject the purity of agreement, forthe righteousness of our displeasure.
The People Resist...because there's nothing else left to do now.

As AFROPUNK links communities around the world, it's important for fans to connect with unique experiences for the best value. We have partnered with Black & Abroad and Tastemakers Africa who have created experiences and tours around Atlanta and partnered with Aloft Atlanta, The Ellis Hotel, The Highland Inn and InterContinental Buckhead Atlanta for discounted hotel rooms.
