BMG’s first-ever production of a stage musical has enjoyed a successful world premiere at Stage Theater des Westens in Berlin on Sunday, November 28. It also marked the reopening of the theatre, which is one of the most renowned venues in Germany.

As part of the Bertelsmann Content Alliance, BMG and the film and TV production company UFA Fiction have joined forces to bring one of the most-streamed German television trilogies, Ku'damm 56, to the stage.

The highly anticipated adaption, Ku'damm 56 - Das Musical, was developed by the songwriting team Peter Plate and Ulf Leo Sommer (e.g. Rosenstolz, Max Raabe, Sarah Connor) together with Grimme Award-winning author of the story, Annette Hess. Musical director Christoph Drewitz (Amélie, Fack ju Göhte) and choreographer Adam Murray (Rocketman) are responsible for the creative work of the show.

Former major of Berlin, Klaus Wowereit, said the television trilogy was "excellently transformed" into a musical. The show is exciting, political and artistic, he said. "It's tremendous fun." In addition to Wowereit, the guests included the potential future mayor of Berlin Franziska Giffey, actress Maria Furtwängler as well as BMG artist and songwriter clients Silbermond, Adel Tawil, and many more.

BMG's music supervision team has been involved in the production of the Ku'damm trilogy since 2016.
