'Don't Wake Me Up' hitmaker Chris Brown has issued a statement to confirm that he has ended his relationship with Karrueche Tran. 

Speaking exclusively to TMZ, Brown explained that his blossoming friendship with former lover Rihanna had become a problem and it made more sense to be single so that nobody was getting hurt:

"I have decided to be single to focus on my career. I love Karrueche very much but I don't want to see her hurt over my friendship with Rihanna. I'd rather be single allowing us to both be happy in our lives."

He sent out a public tweet last night (October 3) to his 11.3 million followers that said: "Both r Free from it all!"

A few hours later, Rihanna tweeted: "Tough times don't last.... But tough people do!!!"
