Fifth Element PR sat down with The 27's Henry Parker to talk about music, inspiration, & the future

The 27, fronted by Henry Parker, have been making waves with their dreamy Americana-tinged pop. By turns tender and explosive, it is packed with cracking guitar lines and the sort of sumptuous, sunny, close harmonies so beloved of 60s west coast bands. The new single ‘How To Run’ is set to be released in January, and it promises to bring a much needed dose of warmth and promise of summer during the cold months. We sat down with Frontman Henry Parker to discuss the highlights of 2018 and the recording process of their new track.

So you recently played The Royal Albert Hall with MUD2 for Bloodwise’s Christmas concert, what did you all enjoy about that special night?

Everything really, great charity, incredible venue and a lovely audience.

Rumour has it that you’re set to release another single soon? Can you confirm that for us?

Yes I can, its coming out at the end of February I do believe.

Leading on from that, what was the recording process like and what can you tell us about the track?

Well the track is about not knowing where you stand or indeed what you stand for as you grow up, I think there is so much information and so many different philosophies out there, that because of social media and the internet we all get constantly get bombarded with what we should think or do. Therefore, I think a of people like myself look at themselves and really can’t work out what they’re doing with themselves.

As for the recording process recording process without going into the dull geeky detail… All the harmonies are done live with three people round microphone, no pitch correction on anything, the rhythm track was recorded first and the vocals done second, the synths are “exhale” synths and quite low in the mix as all the vocals take up a lot of room.

For those that may not be so familiar with your music, how would you describe it?

It's a meshing of a lot of different eras, the songs are ‘meant' to make you want to sing along. Best listen for yourself and take want you want from it.

How much did the music you all listened to as kids influence your band’s sound today?

A lot, when you are a kid you soak everything up like a sponge. That has definitely influenced what we have done and indeed not done. The noughties were a strange time for music.

Can we expect any music videos this coming year?

Yes you can.

If you could be someone else for just one day who would you want to be and why?

Michael Ball so the BBC would play our records.

And finally, have you got anything else hidden up your sleeves for 2019 that we can know about?

Yes we have, but its a secret. Ssshhhh.

Head to The 27's  website to learn more about this talented trio, and make sure you don't miss the release of their brand new single 'How to Run' in February....
