Northampton’s rising star Maddox Jones reclaims the spotlight with his inaugural track of the year, the liberating ‘Change My Number’, out April 12th via Radikal Records. Taken as the first track from his second album, ‘Change My Number’ heralds the dawn of a new era for the singer-songwriter, being his most raw, honest, and urgent work to date.

‘Change My Number’ is all about breaking free from toxic ties and embracing newfound independence. With its infectious hook, “Change my number, change my name," Maddox delivers a soul-stirring performance, fuelled with emotion and charged with raw authenticity. It marks a shift in sound, now drawing inspiration from the likes of Rag n Bone Man, Teddy Swims, and Tom Walker.

Reflecting on the single, Maddox shares, “‘Change My Number’ is about finally moving on from a person or a situation after you’ve been trying to break free for a while. I was in a situation not so long ago that was pretty toxic, but I couldn’t bear to let go because of the fear of loss, I guess. ‘Change My Number’ is about taking that step of finally letting go and knowing that you are never going to go back to that person or thing again and that you are ready to live your life. It’s a pretty powerful message when you think about it because often it is really hard to let go.”

Having burst onto the scene as a solo artist in 2020 with the critically acclaimed EP, ‘Headspace’, the EP reached #4 in the iTunes Singer-Songwriter chart. The follow-up 2021 single, ‘Can’t Wait for the Summer’ followed suit, hitting the top spot on the same chart. Tipped as One to Watch by BBC Introducing Northampton, Maddox has garnered further acclaim across the industry, earning a spot at #5 on Music Week’s Commercial Pop and Upfront Club Chart with ‘Make Me Yours’.

Maddox has a track record of electrifying performances alongside notable acts like Thomas Heaton, Beaux, and The Lottery Winners. In 2023, Jones released ‘We All Need Somebody’ in support of Mental Health Awareness Week. Mixed by Michael Brauer (Coldplay) and mastered by Joe LaPorta (Miley Cyrus), the track was inspired by the many students he’s met giving motivational speeches at schools all over the United Kingdom.

Beyond his solo endeavours, Maddox has been sought after as a collaborator, lending his songwriting prowess to fellow artists such as Billy Locket, Janet Devlin, and RIP Youth. He still found time to write, produce, and perform an unofficial football anthem for the recent World Cup, which drew lots of attention for himself and The Wealdstone Raider. Maddox enjoyed success with The Departure, securing four Top 40 hits, sharing the stage with iconic bands such as The Killers and Placebo, and playing prestigious festivals like Reading & Leeds and Glastonbury.

Amidst a whirlwind of touring triumphs and accolades, including the title of Songwriter of the Year at the Northamptonshire Local Music Awards, Maddox Jones has been busy crafting his highly anticipated second album. ‘Change My Number’ emerges as the inaugural offering from this forthcoming collection, showcasing Jones at his most raw, honest, and urgent work to date.
