Cult Icon releases 'The Steel EP'

Cult Icon are a blues rock 5-piece band from Birkenhead, Merseyside. Formed in 2019, the band consist of Jim Candlish (Vocals), Lee Barry (Guitar), Tom Byron (Guitar), James Taaffe (Bass) and James Caul (Drums). The band are no strangers to the music industry, Lee Barry and James Taaffe were in a band together before disbanding and Lee went on to play in a band called Motives who worked with Rob Swerdlow (Manager of The Kooks and The La’s) before starting up Cult Icon.

James Caul joined the band along with Jim Candlish, who had mainly been writing and performing at Open Mic Nights prior to joining the band and then Tom Byron auditioned for the band and the rest, as you say, is history. The band note influences such as Al Green, The Beatles, The Doors, Style Council, The Jam, The Black Keys and The Who.

With 3 successful singles already under their belt ‘Cold Street Shade’, ‘Peach Faith’ and ‘Birkenhead Blues’ the band released their debut EP “The Steel EP” on 23rd July before playing a sold-out show at Jimmy’s Liverpool on 24th July. The band’s future see’s bigger gigs, such as a support slot for Shaun Ryder in later 2021 and they’re currently working on further writing.
