From One Potter Fan to Another, Harry Potter Is Coming

It’s official, all eight Harry Potter movies are coming to HBO on January 1, 2018. The internet was quick to catch onto the magical implications of HBO + H.P.

Some fans started making New Year’s Day plans early: “Can we stock up on Butterbeer and pumpkin cakes before this marathon?”

Others found an excuse for canceling plans: “I can finally reject my friend’s invitation to go to a New Year’s party and tell ‘em that I’m busy.” And, “I may never leave my house again!!!!”

Phil Matarese, of HBO’s Animals, inquired via Twitter “Why didn’t I know about this”? (Our owl never reached you?)

Some fans are already assembling an H.P.-watching wardrobe. As one said, “I will be in my sorting hat and show my Ravenclaw colors.”

And the yet-to-be initiated see this as an opportunity to discover what the fuss is about (in all-caps no less): “FINALLY ABLE TO WATCH THESE FILMS!!!”

For those who might have blacked out in joyous celebration at the news, here’s what the union means:

  1. 1

For the first time ever, all eight movies are available in one place, to stream anytime, anywhere.

  2. 2

They’ll join Potter prequel Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, already available to stream on HBO.

  3. 3

The movies will run unedited and commercial free.

  4. 4

Pausing to appreciate: Zero. Commercial. Breaks. Ever.

  5. 5

On January 1, starting at 9 a.m. ET, HBO is airing a Harry Potter marathon of all eight movies.

  6. 6

For the next week (January 2-9), HBO Family will air one Harry Potter movie a night at 8 p.m. ET.

One thing is certain, when January 1 hits, it’s time to nestle under your invisibility cloak and “accio” some takeout. It’ll be one magical start to the New Year.
