Justin Bieber has clarified reports that he wants to create a celebrity football team with One Direction.

The star had been quoted in recent weeks as saying that he would like to make a celebrity football team in Los Angeles.

He had purportedly said that One Direction agreed to play in the team, with David Beckham in Bieber's mind as a possible coach.

However, he told The Hot Hits that the report wasn't true - but he challenged One Direction to a match anyway. Bieber said:

"There was this huge write-up saying that I said all this stuff about this soccer team and I wanted David Beckham...That was never even an interview, I never said any of those things. But, I do love soccer, and if there was a team that we could make, I would play. I saw some of the One Direction kids tweet...I mean, let's play, let's go. Our team versus your team, let's go."
