Katy Perry is not engaged to boyfriend John Mayer, according to a California jeweller.

As previously reported, the pop songstress recently sparked wedding rumours after sporting a shiny ring on her wedding finger.

The singer divorced from previous partner Russell Brand in 2012 and eager minds had already linked the 'Wide Awake' star to a new marriage.

However, a representative for Santa Barbara jeweller Daniel Giddings confirmed to People that the ring was just a Valentine's Day present, which Mayer chose himself.

The rep added that the singer-songwriter was "really super nice" when visiting their shop.
