One Direction: 'Our new album will be more edgy - we're really happy with it'

Irish heartthrob Niall Horan has revealed that One Direction's forthcoming new album will showcase a certain type of musical maturity that their other records lack.

During an interview with America's 'The Today Show', Horan confessed that their next record will be 'more edgy' than the pop-infused albums they have released previously: "Think it's going to be a little bit more edgy. But obviously we feel like we've got some really good songs and we are happy."

Liam Payne added that they have been more hands-on this time around where songwriting is concerned:

"We've all taken a hand in the writing this time. And we've literally written almost every song."

Payne, meanwhile, also recently told Teen Vogue that their new album has an undeniable 'chill factor': "We’re really hands on this time. A lot of our singles are bold and pop, but there’s a chill factor on the new one. It’s like driving down a road in California on a lovely day.“
