Carrie Underwood has revealed that she is pregnant.

The country singer confirmed on Instagram on Monday (September 1) that she is expecting her first child.

The US star, who married NHL player Mike Fisher in 2010, revealed the news via a picture of her dogs.

It sees the canines wearing tops that say they are going be become a big brother and sister.

Underwood wrote: "In honor of "Labor" Day...Ace & Penny would like to make an announcement. Their parents couldn't be happier!"

The singer's publicist has since confirmed that their baby is due to arrive in the spring.

Underwood shot to fame by winning American Idol in 2005.
