5 Seconds of Summer have asked fans to vote for them for NME's Worst Band award.

The music magazine this week announced the nominees for their 2015 awards, which are taking place on February 18 at London's Brixton O2 Academy.

Australians 5 Seconds of Summer are up for the Worst Band prize alongside the likes of One Direction, U2 and Blink-182.

This has piqued the interest of guitarist Michael Clifford, who asked fans on Twitter to vote for them.

He wrote: "HOLY SH*T WE GOT NOMINATED FOR WORST BAND AT THE NME AWARDS. pls pls pls vote. I'm not even being sarcastic it would be so incredible to win."

Last year's Worst Band winners were The 1975.
