Maroon 5 cancel show to 'respect religious celebrations'

Maroon 5 have pulled a show in Indonesia because it clashed with a day of Muslim holiday in the country.

The US group were due to play at gig near Jakarta on September 23.

However, the date collides with the day of Idul Adha, which is also known as Eid al-Adha.

The celebration is a Muslim festival that merits a public holiday in Indonesia.

Writing in a statement, Maroon 5 said that they are cancelling the show as a mark of respect.

They said: "Out of the utmost respect for the religious celebrations of Idul Adha and the community activities that will surround this period, we will be cancelling our concert on the 23rd of September 2015 at ICE, BSD, Tangerang, Indonesia.

"We apologise for any inconvenience."
