Skepta spent five hours alone after winning the Mercury Prize

Skepta has revealed that he spent most of the night after winning the Mercury Prize by himself.

He won the coveted award for his album Konnichiwa and told London's Evening Standard that he took time out to contemplate the win in solitude: “I stayed [at the afterparty] for a little bit then I just went home, sat on the beanbag in my front room and just looked out of the window for, like, five hours."

"I just stayed there by myself. The thing about awards is that a lot of those moments are about the whole world telling you that you deserve it and rah, rah, rah. I’m very appreciative of that but I love experiencing stuff by myself. Because it feels different. You know the truth and you can hear what the voice in your head is saying properly.”

Back in September, he told the BBC that he has great plans for the £25,000 ($31,496) prize money: "Something positive, something to help other people feel as happy and as free as me. We're doing a project right now, actually, building a studio in my old estate to help the young kids do music."
