McFly honour American success with 'YMCA' tattoos

British pop-rockers McFly have celebrated the launch of their collective stateside career by getting some new body art.

The lads, who recently sold out some of their first ever headlining U.S. dates in under two minutes, explained to The Sun newspaper that to commemorate their success in America they decided to each get a permanent reminder.

Member Harry Judd explained: "We got some stupid tattoos. When we came to LA together five years ago we all had tattoos on our feet. They said bare foot, good f-foot, athlete’s foot and big foot."

“So when we came back this time we thought it would be a good idea to get YMCA tattooed on our feet – a letter each. We walked in to the same tattoo shop just up the street and said, ‘Hi mate, can we get YMCA tattooed on our feet?’ It was the same reaction as before, ‘Are you sure?’"

Speaking about performing at the legendary Roxy venue, Tom Fletcher added: "It’s our first ever proper, headlining gig in America – it’s taken us nine years. It’s been frustrating. We’ve wanted to come from day one but we’ve never had a record deal here so have concentrated on the UK."

“But this year we said enough is enough and we had to go to America. If we don’t do it now we’ll be 50 years old."
