One Direction have revealed their frustration at having their friendship called into question.

The quintet did not know each other until they were pieced together from solo contestants on the X Factor in 2010.

Since leaving the show they have rarely been apart and have travelled the world in each other's company.

Speaking on Australian TV, Louis Tomlinson said claims that their friendship is manufactured is completely wide of the mark. He said:

"It's such a frustrating question. Because I just don't understand how you can see the way that we are together, on camera and off camera, and look at it as if it's being contrived."

Tomlinson continued: "It's so evident that we do get on so well. And I just don't think we're good enough actors to pull off that kind of friendship!"
