X Factor winner's single tops UK iTunes chart

James Arthur's debut single has gone straight to the top of the UK iTunes chart.

The singer won the final of the X Factor last night (December 9), beating Jahmene Douglas to the crown.

He released a cover of Shontelle's 'Impossible' at midnight following his victory and the track seems to have proved a hit online.

It shot to No.1 on the iTunes chart, displacing will.i.am and Britney Spears' 'Scream & Shout'.

The single is being released in conjunction with children's charity Together for Short Lives, with 100% of the profits going to the cause.

As previously reported, One Direction star and fellow X Factor alumni Niall Horan stated that he thinks James Arthur will be a "star".
