Marine band confirms that Beyoncé lip-synched national anthem at Obama's inauguration

The United States Marine Corps band has revealed that vocal powerhouse Beyoncé mimed her way through the stunning performance of 'The Star Spangled Banner' during the inauguration ceremony yesterday (January 21).

The band played throughout the live televised event, but a spokesperson explained to the Washingtonian blog that all music for inauguration ceremonies is pre-recorded and the 'Halo' superstar chose to use the play back of her national anthem vocal:

"We don't know why Beyoncé decided to use pre-recorded music. All music (for inaugural ceremonies) is prerecorded as a matter of course, and that's something we've done for years and years. The Marine band did perform live throughout the ceremony but we received last-minute word that Beyoncé wanted to use the recording."

People began speculating about Beyoncé's pitch perfect rendition of the anthem when she pulled out her ear-piece mid-song and the press also referred to a photo (shown below) that she shared recently of herself rehearsing 'The Star Spangled Banner' in a recording studio.

ABC News, meanwhile, revealed that Kelly Clarkson's performance at the inauguration was definitely live.
