Rocker Steven Tyler has revealed that over the course of his music career he probably spent around $6 million (£3.9 million) on drugs.

He sat down for an interview with Australian show 60 Minutes, during which he explained that spending money on drugs seemed like nothing at the time, but it really added up: "Realistically, 5 or 6 [million]. But it doesn’t matter. You also could say I snorted half of  Peru, but it doesn’t matter."

Tyler became addicted to illegal substances in the 1970s although he sought treatment in 1986. In 2009 he became reliant on prescription medication and has since overcome the problem.

His 60 Minutes interview will air this coming Sunday, February 24 on Channel 9.
