Twitter #Music app officially launches

The brand new music discovery app, Twitter #Music, has finally been unveiled today (April 18).

After being teased last week, the app has now been made available and will allow users to find out what's trending on the internationally used social networking site as well as play songs within the app itself.

The app is currently free via the iTunes store and has launched in US, Canada, the UK, Ireland, Australia and New Zealand. Twitter users can 'discover' music using 4 simple tabs ('popular', 'emerging', 'suggested' and 'now playing') and will also be able to follow their favourite artists, much like on Spotify, through the program.

The photograph below shows a series of screenshots from the iPhone app and it will also eventually be available to Android. A post on Twitter's blog explains: "Today, we're releasing Twitter #music, a new service that will change the way people find music, based on Twitter."

“It uses Twitter activity, including Tweets and engagement, to detect and surface the most popular tracks and emerging artists. It also brings artists’ music-related Twitter activity front and center: go to their profiles to see which music artists they follow and listen to songs by those artists. And, of course, you can tweet songs right from the app.”
