Robin Thicke opens up about his musical upbringing

Chart topper Robin Thicke has been discussing his music-filled childhood and upbrining.

During a UK television interview the ‘Blurred Lines’ crooner detailed how he first became interested in music.

Thicke explained: “I was one of those kids who took two piano lessons and just didn't get into it, then a year later I picked it up on my own and started teaching myself the songs I heard on the radio.”

The American singer-songwriter put his own talents down to his family’s musical past as he revealed: “I have many generations of piano players and string players and jazz saxophonists, so there are generations of musicians… It's in the blood, it's in the DNA.”

He specifically referenced his parents as Thicke stated: “My mom is a musician, my dad is a musician.”

Robin Thicke’s mother is actress and singer Gloria Loring who starred in the American soap opera Days Of Our Lives. His father is the Canadian songwriter, actor and entertainer Alan Thicke. The former husband and wife partnership collaborated on composing television show theme tunes including those for ‘80s sitcoms Diff’rent Strokes and The Facts of Life.

Robin Thicke’s latest album ‘Blurred Lines’ will be released on July 30.
