Musicport Festival – October 17th-19th 2014, Whitby Pavilion, North Yorkshire
“One of the most unique & friendly festivals in the UK”
Day Tickets On Sale/More Acts Announced/Indoor Camping.
Musicport is a unique festival in its combination of international, national and local acts together with a mix of music & more that includes folk, roots, blues, jazz, rock, indie, poetry, cookery all in an intimate environment with 60 artists over 6 stages in one building. Run by an established team of primarily volunteers it is now in it’s 15th year and takes place 17-19 October 2014 at Whitby Pavilion, North Yorkshire.
Musicport is a great way for people to finish the festival season as the days draw in with no worry about the weather affecting proceedings. Run by a not for profit company and attracting audience members from all around the UK and with international recognition of its programming Musicport puts a lot into the local economic and cultural economy of the Yorkshire coast. A grant from Scarborough Borough Council has just been awarded to Musicport to help underpin its work.
Musicport also have a limited number of individual day tickets available:
This year the festival will also play host to comedian Mitch Benn, Eduardo Niebla (Spain), Maia, The Hut People & Mim Suleiman (Zanzibar), Rise Kagona (the original Bhundu Boy), Andy Kershaw (DJ set), Banco De Gaia, Firm Of Poets, Michelle Scally Clarke, Guo Yue (China), The Baghdaddies and Jesse Bannister's Play Out, the UK's leading classical Indian/Indo jazz saxophonist Jesse with his new quartet which features MOBO Award-winning pianist Zoe Rahman, the Mercury Prize-nominated drummer Seb Rochford and the groove infused lines of Corrinne Bailey Rae bassist Kenny Higgins.
A new feature at the festival will be the Sol Cinema, the worlds smallest cinema, where an audience of 8 are treated with red carpet, usherettes and popcorn to a cinematic experience for short films in a beautifully converted caravan.
Indoor camping at Brunswick Centre. A new feature of this year’s festival is indoor camping, which at £25 per head for full weekend, gives a cost effective and festival-appropriate option that combats the weather (which is often better than at Glastonbury we have to add). Enquiries & booking of this space limited facility 01947 603475
A new all-acoustic venue at La Rosa Hotel. There will be opportunities to see main stage acts as well as acts specifically booked in performance in the wonderfully quirky basement cafe of La Rosa Hotel where no amplification is permitted or required.
Open Mic stage: One of the most popular areas at the festival where audience members can claim their 15 minutes of fame
DJ café: With guest DJs & live projections throughout weekend keeping a festival vibe happening in the cafe overlooking the sea.
Workshops & Cookbook project: There will be a host of workshops running alongside the main programme and this years special project will be a series of cookery demonstrations by artists with recipes from their diverse cultures which together with recipes collected from audience members will form the basis of a cookbook Recipes From A World Of Music to be produced in collaboration with Yorkshire based company Route Publishing. Having recently gained The Fatea Magazine Indoor Festival Of The Year Award 2013, Musicport was also recently short-listed for Outstanding Festival in the Yorkshire Gig Guide Grass Roots Awards. “We were particularly pleased to be short-listed for this award as this was an open public vote and it shows that even a relatively small festival when matched against the Yorkshire “big boys” we punch way above our weight when it comes to both profile and the level of dedication and support of our audience and participants”
