Iconic Jam images on show at festival

Rare images of one of the UK’s most iconic bands will go on public display at a popular two-day music festival.

More than 20 images of The Jam dating back to the early 1980s will be on show at the Live and Kicking Music Festival in Sudbury, Suffolk, later this month.  The images range for pictures of The Jam on stage, rare session shots to photos for record sleeves.

The images are the work of Jam fan and one time band photographer Derek D’Souza and were recently featured in the London exhibition Absolute Luck which brought plaudits from the band’s former lead singer Paul Weller who said: “These pics bring back so many memories. It is great to see these pictures in print after all these years.”  Fellow band member Bruce Foxton said: “Cracking photo’s Derek.”

Mr D’Souza’s connection with the Jam began when he took some pictures at a concert and sent them to the band’s fan club. The band were so impressed with the images they invited him to meet them. Mr D’Souza went on to take many pictures of the band including iconic photographs in ChiswickPark, which featured on the sleeve of the Jam’s hit single Absolute Beginners.
