Glenn Tilbrook Announces Extensive Acoustic Tour For Autumn 2013

‘THE HAPPY ENDING TOUR’

November 3rd to December 18th 2013

‘Happy Ending’ – new album release January 2014

Glenn Tilbrook announces an extensive acoustic tour for autumn 2013. Beginning in Exeter on November 3rd the 33 date ‘Happy Ending’ tour will see Glenn return to his totally stripped down solo acoustic show, the first time he has toured completely solo in the UK in 4 years.

Glenn will be showcasing songs from his new album ‘Happy Ending’ which is due for release in January 2014.  CD copies of the album will be available initially at shows during the tour and in January the album will be released as a vinyl, CD, download card package. Glenn’s first solo album since 2009, ‘Happy Ending’ is stripped back and beautifully layered with a totally different feel to anything he has released before.

Glenn Tilbrook is one of the UK’s best-loved musicians, thanks to a career with Squeeze and on his own that has spanned 30 years, spawning Top-Ten hits all around the world such as ‘Cool For Cats’, ‘Tempted’ and ‘Up The Junction’. With his two solo albums, ‘The Incomplete Glenn Tilbrook’ and ‘Transatlantic Ping-Pong’, he proved he’s lost none of the joie-de-vivre that became Squeeze’s trademark. For 2009’s album “Pandemonium Ensues” he injected some fresh faces by recruiting new band The Fluffers and some prestigious guests in the shape of Johnny Depp and Vanessa Paradis.  In 2011 Glenn released ‘The Co-Operative’ a collaboration between Glenn and Nine Below Zero.

The last few years have been extremely busy for Glenn. 2010 saw him return to his roots with Squeeze and release the album ‘Spot The Difference’, a collection of 14 of their best-loved hits, re-recorded by the band to be as close to the original versions as possible (whilst challenging their fans to spot the difference!). As well as the album release the band took to the road with their biggest UK tour in over 10 years, a tour that capped an exhilarating 2010 for Glenn and his Squeeze band mate Chris Difford.

Squeeze’s contribution to music was noted in 2010 with the site of their first gig being awarded a prestigious PRS For Music Heritage Plaque, which has also commemorated the debuts of Blur and Dire Straits. It joined an ever-increasing list of Squeeze accolades alongside their recent Ivor Novello for Outstanding Contribution to British Music and their Nordoff-Robbins Icon Award, as well as the Mojo Magazine Icon Award. Chris Difford’s lyrics and Glenn Tilbrook’s music have survived everything over the years, from the ever-changing musical landscape to their own internal reshuffles and even an acrimonious breakup - but Squeeze are here to stay, still going strong and still loving every moment.

Glenn’s 2011 tour, on which he was joined by Simon Hanson and Chris McNally, was recorded live each evening and made available at the end of the night from the merchandise stand. Speaking of the idea Glenn said “Over the years so many people have asked for recordings of the acoustic shows and we made it possible for the audience to take home a recording of the show that they had just enjoyed and were a part of”. Squeeze repeated this direct-to-fan concept on their 2012 Pop Up Shop Tour.

Clearly, for Glenn Tilbrook playing is about enjoying the moment and it’s that desire and enthusiasm that sets him apart from so many of his peers. Whether he’s playing to a club audience or to a festival crowd, Glenn Tilbrook still gets the buzz from playing and making music. Catch this tremendous performer while you can as 2014 is shaping up to be a very busy year for Squeeze.
