Taylor Swift's 'Red' on course to sell 1 million copies in first week

Earlier this week, country-pop sensation Taylor Swift released her highly anticipated new album 'Red' and it has been doing incredibly well with sales.

Billboard reports that her new offering has surpassed 500,000 copies after just the first day and it's currently on course to shift 1 million by the end of its first week.

If 'Red' achieves this phenomenal feat, it will make Swift the first female artist in the Nielsen SoundScan era (from 1991 onwards) to have a pair of albums sell more than a million units in a single week.

Big Machine also noted that the record went to No.1 on iTunes' all-genre Top Albums chart just 36 minutes after it was released at 12:01 a.m. Monday, October 22.

The superstar took to her official Twitter page earlier this afternoon (October 23) and told her fans in the U.S. to tune into David Letterman's show tonight as she'll be a guest on it: "Gonna be on the @Late_Show tonight and I'm excited about it because David Letterman is cool." Listen to 'Begin Again', which is on Swift's new album, below:
