The Who on headlining Glastonbury: 'We were a last-minute replacement for Prince'

The Who have revealed that they only headlined Glastonbury because Prince pulled out.

The veteran rockers topped the bill on the event's Sunday night in late June.

However, they posted in a statement online that their slot only happened because Prince didn't want to perform.

The group said: "Not many know that we were a last-month addition to the show, replacing Prince who decided not to come this year."

The 'Baba O'Riley' act also suggested that someone had tried to sabotage their set before they went onto the Pyramid Stage.

The Who added: "As we began to prepare our coming changeover, we found someone had sabotaged the carefully-tested audio connections for much of our gear.

"We've never seen that before, but we're good at plugging things in, so all damage was repaired in time."
