Fatalities confirmed after Ariana Grande Manchester Arena explosion

Fatalities have been confirmed after an explosion at an Ariana Grande gig took place at Manchester Arena this evening (May 22) at 10:35pm in England.

The US pop singer was performing at the venue tonight as part of her Dangerous Woman Tour. The arena has the highest seating capacity of any indoor venue in the United Kingdom, and is the second largest in the European Union, with a capacity of 21,000.

A “loud bang” was reportedly heard at the very end of the concert, which caused the audience at the venue to leave screaming in panic and confusion. Early reports confirm the stampede injured people trying to escape.

Some concert-goers have said that they could smell burning and saw a white light. Others say that they saw people being thrown from their seats, lying on the floor with bloodied faces, and teenagers being carried out of the exit injured.

Given that Ariana Grande is a young pop star, her following is mostly teens and children, which has left many desperate parents worried about the safety of their loved ones who attended her show. It has been confirmed that the star herself is okay but traumatised.

The Greater Manchester Police feed has reported that there have been fatalities and the bomb disposal unit have been called. They said:

“Emergency services are currently responding to reports of an explosion at Manchester Arena. There are a number of confirmed fatalities and others injured. Please AVOID the area as first responders work tirelessly at the scene. Details of a casualty bureau will follow as soon as possible.”

At the present time, it has been reported that 19 people have died, whilst 50 others have been injured.

The story is still unfolding tonight, but the incident is now being treated as a possible terrorist attack.
