One Direction star Niall Horan says he plans to indulge himself this Christmas.

The singer is due to return to his homeland Ireland for the festive season as the group kick off their prolonged hiatus.

Speaking to E!, the Mullingar man said he intends to eat and drink himself merry over Christmas.

Horan said: "We're just looking forward to heading home. I personally haven't been home in awhile and that's going to be good to see the family and eat like crazy.

"At home, we do this thing called 12 pubs of Christmas. You've got five minutes to finish a pint and you're done."

The comments come somewhat in contradiction to Horan's recently revealed plans for 2016.

He said: "I'm going to train, succeed in the gym this year.

"I always do it when I'm on tour and then when I get home, I'm c**p. Yeah, I would like to succeed properly and get the job done."
