Pharrell Williams' 'G I R L' debuts at the top of UK albums chart

Pharrell Williams has achieved his first No. 1 UK album with his new LP ‘G I R L’.

‘G I R L’ is Pharrell’s second solo album with 2006’s ‘In My Mind’ being his debut.

With sales of 70,000 in the last seven days, ‘G I R L’ is the fastest selling album of 2014 so far. The previous holder of this title was Bruce Springsteen when ‘High Hopes’ sold 48,000 copies in its first week back in January.

The rest of this week’s top five albums come from Ellie Goulding with ‘Halcyon Days’ climbing one place to No. 2, Bastille’s ‘Bad Blood’ falls two places to No. 3, Avicii’s ‘True’ is up eight places to No. 4 and Arctic Monkeys’ ‘AM’ is down three places to No. 5.

Besides Pharrell Williams, there are a further six new entries to this week’s album chart.

Rick Ross is new in at No. 11 with ‘Mastermind’, Mike Oldfield is just behind at No. 12 with ‘Man On The Rocks’, ‘Is There Anybody Out There?’ by A Great Big World has entered at No. 16, Drive By Truckers have reached No. 34 with ‘English Oceans’, We Are Scientists sit at No. 36 with ‘TV En Francais’ and Rufus Wainwright’s Best Of collection ‘Vibrate’ is at No. 39.
