U2 win Best Original Song award at Golden Globes

U2 picked up a Golden Globe last night (January 12) for their work on Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom.

The Irish stars contributed the track 'Ordinary Love' to the soundtrack of the film, which starred Idris Elba.

The song, which credits The Edge, Adam Clayton, Larry Mullen and Brian Burton as its writers, won the Best Original Song prize at the Golden Globes in Los Angeles.

Bono said when collecting their award: "This really is personal for us - very, very personal. This man [Nelson Mandela] turned our life upside-down, right-side up, a man who refused to hate, not because he didn't have rage or anger, but that he thought love would do a better job."

Last year's Best Original Song award was collected by Adele for her Skyfall theme tune.

U2's win meanwhile coincides with news that they are recording a new song for an Aids charity.

They posted on their official website: "There's been some online buzz this week about what the band have been up to in LA. Here's the scoop. It's all about a new song called 'Invisible', a track the band will be releasing as part of an initiative with (RED), to support the fight against AIDS. Everybody's really excited about the song and the band have been shooting the video in LA. That's all we can say for now... we'll keep you posted!"
