David Bowie has beaten Adele's one-day Vevo views record

David Bowie made a new Vevo record just days after passing away.

The musician died on Sunday (January 10) aged 69 after a secret battle with cancer.

After his passing, the public flocked to YouTube to watch his videos.

This included 'Lazarus', the foreboding clip released just days before his death that showed Bowie in a hospital bed.

Vevo have confirmed that Bowie received 51 million views in just 24 hours.

That beats Adele's previous record of 36 million, which was set in October following the release of her 'Hello' video.

The 'Lazarus' video gained 11.1 million hits alone.
