Triple threat Jennifer Lopez has broken her silence over the recent end of her marriage to Marc Anthony in a new interview with Vanity Fair U.S.

The singer, actress and American Idol judge graces the cover of the magazine's September edition and opened up about calling time on her marriage, saying she "didn't love myself" enough to walk away from it before:

"I love myself enough to walk away from that now. It’s not that I didn’t love myself before. Sometimes we don’t realise we are compromising ourselves. To understand that a person is not good for you, or that person is not treating you in the right way, or that he is not doing the right thing for himself – if I stay, then I am not doing the right thing for me."

She explained that although this particular relationship didn't turn out the way she had hoped, she will remain an eternal optimist when it comes to matters of the heart:

"Sometimes it doesn’t work – and that’s sad. But I remain an eternal optimist about love. I believe in love. I am positive and determined to move forward with my life. I now look forward to new challenges. I feel strong."
