Ed Sheeran: 'I wrote 40 songs about a bad relationship and they're all angry and dark'

British singer-songwriter Ed Sheeran has revealed that he wrote around 40 'dark' songs about a relationship he had last year that nobody knows about.

Speaking to the Daily Mail newspaper, the 'Lego House' hitmaker explained that he hasn't felt ready to release the tracks because they're all very wrapped up in negative emotions:

"There's an entire relationship last year that no one knows about. I probably wrote 40 songs about that. I haven't used them because they were a bit too dark."

He added: "It was just anger and pain. I like my songs to have a bit of musicality."

Sheeran, meanwhile, recently spoke out about fame and admitted that he's glad it has been a hard journey: "I think anything worth having is going to be hard to get and I wasn't expecting it to be an easy ride. I kind of wanted it to be the hard ride because when you get it it's actually worth it."
