INXS guitarist severs finger: 'I may never play properly again'

INXS star Tim Farriss has revealed that he may never be able to play the guitar properly again after severing his finger in an accident.

The musician severed the ring finger on his left hand in Sydney in December as he used a winch on a boat.

Local media quotes the guitarist as saying to bandmates and brothers in an email:

"I don't know if I will be able to play properly again."

Farriss has twice tried to have surgery to re-attach the finger, but he has been left with permanent damage.

INXS manager Chris Murphy has since confirmed the news, saying:

"He is getting the best possible care and we hope with time he will regain movement in his finger. This was a terrible accident, we are all here to support him."

Farriss added in a post published on the INXS Facebook page:

"I'm overwhelmed by the outpouring of love and well wishes I'm receiving. Thank you all, I'm feeling the love and it's really helping me get through this nightmare."
