Music stars react after same-sex marriage made legal across US

Music stars have begun to react online after news broke on Friday (June 26) that same-sex marriage has been declared legal across all 50 US states.

Before the landmark ruling, a total of 37 states allowed gay marriage.

However, today's verdict - which was passed by 5-4 in the US Supreme Court - means that the remaining states have to stop their ban on same-sex marriage.

Singer Sam Smith took to Instagram to praise the ruling, writing:

"ALL 50 STATES!!!! So happy. Times are changing my friends.

Ricky Martin added: "BREAKING: #SCOTUS has just announced that love is equal across the nation!!! #MarriageEquality #LoveAlwaysWins #Loveislove."

"We have such a long way to go and so much more fighting to do so I hope nobody stops and thinks everything's ok because it isn't, BUT it's days like today, and moments like this that we've all gotta have a drink and celebrate how far we have come. I couldn't be prouder to be gay x love to all x #PRIDE #EQUALITY."

The Vamps' James McVey wrote on Twitter: "So happy that #samesexmarriage is now legal across the U.S. Shocking that 4/9 of the Supreme Court voted against it however #EqualityForAll."
