Rihanna initially against second Eminem collaboration

Rihanna has opened up about recording a sequel to her smash hit collaboration with Eminem ‘Love the Way You Lie’, saying that she initially didn’t want to do it.

‘Love the Way You Lie Pt. 2’ featuring Eminem will appear on the singer’s upcoming album, ‘Loud’, but Rihanna claims that she was hesitant about competing with the first collaboration.

Speaking to MTV News, the R&B star said: “When I first heard the idea about doing a part two, I was just completely against it. I just felt like you couldn't beat the original. There's no way you can outdo that, so why compete with it?"

However, once the pair got into the studio to flesh out the sequel, she changed her mind.

"We heard a broken-down version that was stripped down, just piano ... that's going to be a bonus on iTunes," she explained. "I fell in love with it. We recorded it, then we did another version to the stripped-down version with drums, then we did another version with drums and Eminem. And then that was the one that just felt really good.”
