'Tis (almost) the season: 7 times celebrities went above and beyond

It's coming up to that time of year when everyone gets a little bit nicer, but we've rounded up some of our favourite good deeds carried out by celebrities during all months of the year to tide us over until the festive spirit really takes hold... and also because it's great to do good all year round.

1. Rebecca Ferguson personally paid for several fans to travel home from a recent concert on her Superwoman Tour and they took to social media site Twitter to thank her for such a wonderful act of generosity.

One fan, known as @ILuvStooshe, wrote: "Hey @RebeccaFMusic just wanna say a huge thank you for last night paying for a 🚖  for me and my sister to get home u r amazing đŸ˜˜.." And another, on Twitter as @lozzer1988, posted: "@RebeccaFMusic we are home safe 😘  thanks for the taxi ride home đŸ˜˜ Lots Of Love The Girls Who Missed There Train In Birmingham WE LOVE YOU XX."

2. Earlier this year, 5 Seconds Of Summer's drummer Ashton Irwin did a similar thing for a stranded fan and put her up in a hotel after she ended up stranded in Cardiff overnight.

The fan, named Laura, tweeted at the time: "I cannot believe that happened, I am eternally grateful. Ok, so I guess I can tweet about it now!!! I met ashton last night and he bought me a hotel room bc (sic) I was stranded. He's the most incredible person."

3. Emma Watson, known for portraying Hermione Granger in the 'Harry Potter' franchise as well as for her political and social activism, recently snuck around London's Underground rail system and left copies of author Maya Angelou's memoir "Mom & Me & Mom" for travellers to read.

Watson launched her own book club as part of her work with UN Women back in January, and she teamed up with Books On The Underground to distribute copies of Angelou's novel. The organisation explained that it was great to have her involved: “We are so excited to have such an amazing book shared by such an inspiring person as Emma Watson, and look forward to seeing the reactions of people who find them.”

4. Back in 2014, a man named Matt Peterson uploaded a video to YouTube and asked Miley Cyrus if she would like to go to as his date to prom.

Unfortunately, Miley couldn't make it, but she invited him to hang out at her concert in Arizona the following month and judging from the photos, they had a blast.

5. "The Greatest" sensation Sia honoured fans who had carried out good deeds by giving them her ARIA Awards.

In November 2014, Sia picked up four prizes at the ARIAs and promptly gave them away to people who had contributed to society. She selected the recipients herself and chose a man who gives up Christmas to "work for those affected by homelessness every year" and another individual who cooked for a family dealing with terminal cancer.

6. Camila Cabello, of Fifth Harmony fame, designed a T-shirt for charity

Last month she teamed up with Save The Children to design the garment for International Day of the Girl, which raises awareness of issues facing young girls.

7. The Vamps' very own James McVey recently launched a fundraising campaign for Centrepoint UK, which is a youth homelessness charity.

He designed a range of T-shirts for the organisation and he explained that it was important for him to get involved in trying to raise money for such a worthy cause: "I have been extremely lucky to have travelled the world and continue to do so annually while touring. I have, however, sadly witnessed first-hand young people sleeping on the streets across the globe. I believe that a great many of us, definitely myself included, frequently take for granted fundamental essentials in life - one of those being a warm and safe place to sleep at night."
