Jared Leto on Dallas Buyers Club role: "I lost 40lbs and then I stopped counting"

Jared Leto has opened up on the drastic weight loss he endured for his role in Dallas Buyers Club.

The singer and actor played the part of Rayon, a transgender HIV sufferer, in the flick.

He won the Best Supporting Oscar for the role earlier this month and Leto told Guardian that he didn't have a specific weight in mind when he had to slim down.

"I lost around 40lbs [almost three stone/18kg] and then I stopped counting. For me, it was about how it made me feel, how it made other people treat me. I got down to something like 114lb [about eight stone], and that was enough to do what I wanted it to do, which was to change everything about me."

When asked if people reacted differently to him, Leto said: "It provides you with a certain amount of fragility, it changes the way you walk and talk and think and move. It changes you inside and out."

Dallas Buyers Club meanwhile, which also saw Matthew McConaughey win the Best Actor Oscar, is being shown in UK cinemas now.
