5 Seconds of Summer fan vote message named most tweeted music hashtag on Twitter

A 5 Seconds of Summer related term has been named as the biggest music-related hashtag on Twitter in the US this year.

The social networking website has released its end of year data and it shows 5 Seconds of Summer fans as having a sizeable impact on the service.

They say #vote5sos - which was coined to gain votes for November's American Music Awards - was the most popular music related hashtag on Twitter in the US in 2014.

The Australians eventually won the New Artist of the Year prize at the event.

A tweet meanwhile from One Direction about winning three awards at the AMAs was one of the most retweeted messages on the site in the US when it comes to pop.

The band's account tweeted on November 24: "1D took home 3 awards tonight at @TheAMAs including artist of the year! Thanks to everyone who voted!! #AMAs."

The post has been retweeted over 123,500 times.
