5SOS on their beginnings: 'We needed a drummer to play live with'

Australian pop-punkers 5 Seconds Of Summer have revealed that they started out as a three-piece band and only decided to find a drummer when they decided they wanted to perform live on stage to audiences.

During a chat with James Corden for 'The Late Late Show', the lads opened up about their beginnings as a trio and Corden asked: “Luke, Michael and Calum, you all met and formed the band… But then you found Ashton on Facebook?”

Calum Hood, who plays bass in the 'She's Kinda Hot' though group replied: “Basically, it wasn’t a band; it was just kind of like a trio, we did covers on YouTube… And then we booked a gig, and we said to ourselves, ‘We’ll probably need a drummer’.”

Heartthrob Ashton Irwin, who is the band's drummer, joked: “Michael (Clifford) messaged me at 2am… ‘What you doin’?’ I said, ‘NM, U?’” Michael Clifford then added: “So it kind of blossomed from there…”
