Ariana Grande has been forced to clarify a recent interview in which she apparently said an ex-boyfriend may have cheated on her with a man.

The singer was quoted by The Metro as saying that she was "99.9%" sure a man had cheated on her with another guy.

The US star has now taken to Twitter to pour cold water over the quote, writing:

"People loooove twisting my words lol. I never said "my ex". So don't trip. It was a a looooong time ago.... and it made for a great song.

"Just thought I'd clear that up before any unnecessary drama takes place haha."

The singer had been referring to her new song 'Break Your Heart Right Back', which talks about a man cheating on a woman with another man.

The track will feature on Grande's upcoming second album 'My Everything', which is being released on August 25.
