Austin Mahone urges fans not to text and drive

Singer Austin Mahone has signed up to front a new campaign that highlights the dangers of texting and driving, called the #GetThereSafe campaign.

It urges young people not to use their phones while they're behind the wheel and Mahone told Just Jared Jr. that it's so important to be aware and present while driving, because one little distraction could prove fatal:

"I wanted to inform kids on why it’s important to drive safe because I’m a new teen driver as well, and these days it’s all about Twitter and Instagram, so I just wanted to let them know that it’s not worth it to check all that stuff while you’re driving. Wait until you get to where you are to check all that because it’s actually the No.1 cause of death for teens in America. It’s pretty scary.”

When asked what fans should do if they see their friends texting and driving, Mahone explained: “If you see your friend trying to text and drive, take their phone! It’s not worth it.”

He is currently on tour across the USA with The Vamps and girl group Fifth Harmony acting as main support.
