Charlotte Bruus Christensen makes her directorial debut, having previously been Director of Photography on hit films Girl On A Train, A Quiet Place, Fences and Far From The Madding Crowd. Gemma Arterton (The King’s Man, The Escape) leads an all-star cast as Sister Clodagh, the Anglo-Catholic nun who travels to Nepal to set up a branch of her order in the remote palace of Mopu.

In the unfettered sensuality of the so-called House Of Women, Sister Clodagh finds herself increasingly attracted to the handsome and damaged land agent Mr Dean (Alessandro Nivola, Jurassic Park, American Hustle).

As the repressed memories of Clodagh’s past become entangled with the tragic history of Princess Srimati (Gianni Gonsalves), to the fascination of troubled Sister Ruth, history seems doomed to repeat itself. But are there really ghosts in the Himalayas, or are the incomers succumbing to long-repressed primal desires? Are the nuns prepared to die - or kill - for love? The three-part drama is produced by DNA TV in association with FX Productions for BBC One and the FX Networks. Andrew Macdonald and Allon Reich of DNA TV executive produce along with Amanda Coe, who also serves as writer. Lucy Richer and Ayela Butt are executive producers for the BBC. Charlotte Bruus Christensen serves as director.

Black Narcissus will air on BBC One and BBC iPlayer this December. In the US it will air on FX on 23 November and the next day on FX on Hulu. Filming took place last year in Nepal and in the UK at Pinewood Studios, Buckinghamshire.
